PROFILE

Akasaki Vanhuyse is a design studio based in Shoreditch, London, led by Japanese designer/architect Kenta Akasaki and French industrial designer Astrid Vanhuyse. Blending both perspectives, they collaborate on projects including product, furniture, space, curation and research. From future vision and special projects to design for manufacture, their approach is purpose-driven and focuses on creating innovative, considered and long-lasting solutions. As part of their design research, they curate timeless objects for Random Residency. They launched SHOP A V, a platform selling products designed / made / found by Akasaki Vanhuyse.

Kenta Akasaki studied architecture at Tokyo City University (BA) under Takaharu Tezuka and at Kingston University (MArch) in London. He worked for Matheson Whiteley, where he collaborated on a number of projects in London such as residential development, house extension, arts centre and a workshop for designer Max Lamb. He has been finalist for Antepavilion in London, a public bath project in Japan and several furniture and product design competitions.

Astrid Vanhuyse completed an MA in industrial design at ISD Rubika in France. She worked as Marc Berthier’s design assistant at Eliumstudio in Paris before joining Nendo in Tokyo where she worked on product, furniture and exhibition projects. In London, she worked for design consultancies and then as an independent designer, gaining experience in various sectors including tech and sustainability. She designed award-winning products and collaborated with major brands and emerging start-ups.
