RGB
Pavilion

A summer pavilion designed for an architecture event. The site is in an office district in East London. Wind and shadow as spatial elements, we proposed a shaded rest area inspired by Awnings and Noren curtains. The kinetic materials provide soft boundaries within the space with the moving shadows.
Mesh fabrics in RGB colours are layered alternately on the X and Y axes. They are limited to the three colours yet, depending on the viewpoint more colours will appear by overlapping the coloured layers. We reflected the RGB principle into the pavilion to celebrate the maximum colours with the minimum materials.
Bespoke outdoor bench designed for the RGB pavilion. The welded wire mesh panel material was selected to harmonise with the impression of lightness from the fabric used for the pavilion. The octagonal shape aligns with the existing floor tile grid pattern on site. The concept of materiality and grid also applies to the gabion box columns of the pavilion.
